Summa in the Community

Summa at NACAC 2013 Toronto!

The National Association of College Admissions Counselors Annual Conference, attended by senior Summa staff, is a valuable learning experience.  The senior Summa team took a red-eye flight to Toronto in order to gather the latest information on college admissions from the College Board, ACT, and Admissions Deans from across the country.  Last year, Summa Summit 2013 Counselor of the Year Mercedes Hubschmitt (Westview High School) joined the Summa team for NACAC.

Community Outreach with Morse High School

In 2012, Summa Education teacher and Morse High School teacher Joseph Hyun developed a pilot program to provide SAT prep at Morse High School, free to motivated students who applied to the program.  Summa staff Deborah Kang and Jennifer Suh developed this special program at the school in conjunction with Morse High School Math Chair Joseph Duffy, Vice Principal William Laine, and Summa teachers Annie Chartrand, Charlene Engle, Adam Lowenstein and Christopher Hamilton in order to bring SAT preparation and college admissions counseling to deserving students at Morse High School. Summa continues to develop this targeted preparation program in order to make quality test preparation and admissions advice more accessible to a wider audience of motivated high school students.

Summa continued the program in 2013 with over 150 applications and 70 accepted senior student participants with the addition of staff and senior instructors Brian Devine, Mark Pangilinan, and Maureen Abugan, a former student of Morse.
